What is my Goal?

A few years ago, I felt called to begin my little Tpt store, LearningWithLouise. I was a successful teacher, but I felt I wasn’t doing enough to help people that may not have options where they lived or whom wanted more for their children than what they had been able to receive.  Either way, I kept hearing my late mother’s voice telling me to hold my head up high and climb that ladder as she had my entire childhood. So a month before the pandemic shutdown in March of 2020, I decided to open my TPT store.  My mom would have been so proud of me too. My mother was such a force in my life. The stories of her childhood and growing up during the Great Depression and WWII have always made me want to do and be better for my students.  She grew up when learning disabilities  and those with them were shunned or were made to wear dunce caps in front of the whole class.

Today, we call what she most likely had dyslexia, something one of my sons would be diagnosed with also.  She was made to feel dumb and less than other children.  My heart would break for her when she would retell her stories of the treatment she received. After I watched my own son have many of the same experiences his grandmother had recalled, I knew I needed to help children from diverse backgrounds to read proficiently. More importantly, I wanted to never let another child feel that way again especially children that learn in a different way than others. Instead, I wanted them to feel like my mother did in this photo.  Happy, curious and full of life for education, sports, music… whatever makes them feel beautifully made and ready for success. I am scheduled to finish my Master’s degree in elementary education with a focus on literacy in June of 2024. I have learned about best practices and I want to share my knowledge with the readers of my blog.  If you like to learn about new research on education then join me on my quest to help educate all children.

The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you- B.B. King
